It can be difficult to self-diagnose your shooting problems. We assume we’re shooting in front or behind a target but often we’re above or below it. The only reliable way to work out where you are shooting when you miss targets is to have someone watch you. Perhaps more important is for that person to be able to explain how to change what you’re doing to hit the targets. Saying “you were behind that one” is not particularly helpful unless you are told why. A common problem is slowing or stopping your swing as you pull the trigger, usually because you momentarily take your eye off the target and look at the barrel. If you do that, you will miss.
A shotgun needs to shoot where you are looking. It needs to fit you. When you put it to your shoulder your eye needs to be at the correct height and looking straight down the barrel without having to cock your head. It is difficult to shoot well with a poorly fitting gun as it will often cause you to miss off line, above or behind.
