Anything that makes shooting more comfortable, particularly for beginners, has got to be a good idea. I must confess to having been a bit skeptical of the recoil absorbing “kick off” stock fitted to some recent models of Beretta shotguns. We recently put one to the test down at Hau Ora Clays and used our slow motion video to capture it in action. You can see the video here and I think it speaks for itself. It substantially reduces the recoil and makes our 20 gauge semi-automatic very soft shooting indeed.
We have tried it out with a number of novice shooters, who have commented that it makes the whole shooting experience more comfortable than they expected. The benefit of this is that they can concentrate on the target, rather than worrying about the kick from the gun and consequently their shooting is improved.
There are some downsides though. Although the gun comes with shims to adjust the fit to some extent, it is pretty much impossible to change the length of the stock by cutting a piece out. If you do buy one, make sure it is the right length for you. Some people also find the movement of the recoil absorber a bit off putting. So best to try one out first. On the whole though, a great solution to an old shooting problem, just make sure it suits you before you invest.
If you want to try our one out, come on down to Hau Ora Clays. Either book a time by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or call on 021 680 053.
